She not only finds the chemical reaction in the body caused by stress fascinating, but stress is also her favorite topic to speak about, write about, or discuss in line at the grocery store.
With a surgically repaired heart, Eliz also knows stress management isn’t a ‘nice-to-have,' but rather an essential survival skill. Surviving a heart attack at age 35 while seven months pregnant with twins propelled Eliz on a mission to share her story to inspire other busy people to pay attention to their health. Just days after her heart stopped and she endured open heart surgery and a cesarean section delivery, Eliz held both her daughters together for the first time.
Amazingly, despite the pain and uncertainty, what she felt most strongly was contentment. Her priorities were crystal clear. She knew she’d been given a second chance at life and a unique perspective for a reason.
Eliz firmly believes she is responsible for showing others how to manage stress and find contentment. Eliz is dedicated to leading others on a path to lower stress and great success.
Eliz Greene was 7 months pregnant with twins when she suffered a massive heart attack.
Her life changed, not only did she survive a ten-minute cardiac arrest, the cesarean delivery of her daughters and open-heart surgery, all on the same day, she gained new perspective and passion for life.
Determined not to lose her new-found passion and to regain her health, Eliz developed strategies to fit activity and healthy habits into her life. She lost the more than eighty pounds she gained while pregnant and has kept it off for more than a decade.
Her heart attack forced her to slow down and pay attention to what was important.
Today, Eliz is a healthy 51-year-old living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her wonderful husband, Clay, their beautiful (now 17-year-old) daughters, and their Corgi dog Sophie.
Knowing she'd been given this incredible story for a reason, Eliz's mission for more than a decade has been to inspire other busy women to pay attention to their heart health. A passionate advocate for public health and closing the disparity in women's diagnosis, treatment, and research in heart disease, she led the charge for federal legislation and the smoking ban in Wisconsin.
In 2010 she received the Heart Hero Award and continues to serve as a national spokesperson for the American Heart Association and is a favorite Go Red speaker. She was recently named one of the Top Ten Online Influencers on Stress and is the Heart Disease Expert on Answers.com.
Drawing on her training as an adaptive movement specialist, Eliz developed down-to-earth strategies for building activity into everyday life, eating better and managing stress. Her strategies for using small movement to change focus and stay engaged during seated learning have been used to energize participants are called “Better Than Caffeine.”
Eliz shares the lessons in her books, on her Top 50 Health & Wellness blog, and as an award winning speaker delivering wellness programs for women, the workplace wellness programs, and education programs for healthcare providers across the country.
